🗣️ “Little D**k Energy”: Ian Machado Garry Slams Khamzat Chimaev After Backstage Altercation at UFC Qatar
Welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry did not mince words when criticizing reigning Middleweight Champion Khamzat Chimaev following a heated backstage altercation at UFC Qatar on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Garry, who had just secured the biggest victory of his career over former Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in the co-main event, called Chimaev "childish" and accused him of displaying "little d**k energy" for shoving him during a seemingly friendly encounter.
I. The Backstage Confrontation
The tense confrontation occurred as Garry, dressed in a suit after his victory, was making his way to the post-fight press conference. He ran into Khamzat Chimaev, who was cornering his friend and Lightweight winner, Arman Tsarukyan.
Garry’s Account
According to Garry, the interaction started cordially as he congratulated Tsarukyan and then spoke to Chimaev:
Initial Exchange: Garry recounted asking Chimaev, “Hey, champ.
What’s up? When are we going to see you back?” to which Chimaev replied, "Whenever. Smash," and slapped Garry on the back. The Turn: As security stepped in, Garry told them, “We literally were just cool with each other.
He’s not going to fight me.” Garry claims this statement provoked the Middleweight Champion. The Shove: The situation immediately turned hostile, with Chimaev threatening Garry and delivering a hard shove.
Chimaev’s Counter
Khamzat Chimaev, who was in the corner for his teammate, claimed that Garry initiated the physical contact in an inappropriate manner.
“Don’t punch somebody from behind, you know. He punched, like slapping my back,” Chimaev stated during Tsarukyan’s press conference.
Chimaev suggested Garry was attempting to create hype and emulate his Irish compatriot, Conor McGregor: “He came like that to make some hype.
Like, you know that guy, trying to be Conor, but he’ll never be Conor. He’s a sh*t fighter.”
II. Garry’s Post-Fight Critique
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Garry launched a scathing attack on Chimaev’s conduct, arguing that a world champion should possess better control.
"You're meant to be a champion of this sport. You're a child. You're taking away from [Arman Tsarukyan’s] win over here. How about you calm down, slow down, and have a bit of respect for your friend over here rather than trying to steal the headlines," Garry asserted.
Garry then went further with a highly personal insult to dismiss Chimaev's perceived need for conflict:
“Do you want the honest truth? It’s little d**k energy.
I need to show the world I’m tough," Garry said, mimicking Chimaev. "You're the champion of the world. No one needs to see you be tough. You don't need to have these anger management issues. Just be a man."
III. The Rivalry Intensifies
The incident at UFC Qatar immediately escalated the rivalry between the two undefeated fighters, despite them competing in separate divisions (Garry at Welterweight, Chimaev at Middleweight).
Garry has previously stated his long-term ambition is to move up a weight class and challenge Chimaev.
Garry’s immediate focus remains on securing a Welterweight title shot against the current champion, Islam Makhachev, but he vowed to confront Chimaev eventually: “I’ll get him one day.”
The quick intervention by security and the presence of Tsarukyan prevented the situation from turning physical, but the words exchanged guarantee that the verbal war between the two highly-ranked fighters is only just beginning.
